A Speaking target with a source
The CAPES PDSE annex accepts IELTS 6.0 overall, with at least 5.0 in each skill, as one way to prove your English. The destination institution may still require a different score, so check both the funding call and the university before you set your target.
Oxford Brookes describes requirements that vary by course, including at least 5.5 in Speaking on its page for Brazil. Don't turn that example into a rule for every institution.
Reading the averages correctly
The IELTS 2024–25 dataset does not give an Academic average for Brazilian nationals in the table consulted. The Academic average for candidates whose first language is Portuguese is 6.89 in Speaking and 6.92 overall. These are first-language figures, not averages for Brazilians.
How to practise flexibly
Record an answer about your study plans. Listen for whether each example explains the main reason or opens up a different subject. A teacher can point out one change, guide a new attempt and compare it with a fresh answer. The aim is to look at what you actually said, not to predict your test score.
