Key facts
- IDP says there are only three official IDP test centres in Vietnam: VN104 (Hanoi), VN501 (Da Nang) and VN101 (Ho Chi Minh City).
- IDP says it has no third-party delivery partners in Vietnam and offers no home-based IELTS or IELTS Indicator there; computer-delivered IELTS is taken at its test centres.
- The British Council also runs IELTS; ielts.org lists a British Council centre in Hung Yen.
- The computer-delivered fee on IDP's page was VND 4,664,000 (check the date: its VAT note ends 30/06/2025).
Why you see different numbers of "centres"
IDP's Vietnam page uses two different words. A test centre is a place IDP runs the test under an official centre number. IDP says there are three. It separately points to a page listing its "test centres and official registration partners", which are places where you can register. A prep school that says it is a "registration point" is not the same as a test centre. That is the most likely reason a list of "29 centres" looks different from IDP's statement of three: but we cannot see how a third-party list was built, so check any list against IDP's own page.

| Centre number | City |
|---|---|
| VN104 | Hanoi |
| VN101 | Ho Chi Minh City |
| VN501 | Da Nang |
IDP says any Test Report Form it issues to test takers who attend the test in or from Vietnam should come only from one of these three centre numbers. That gives you a simple check: if someone shows you an IDP certificate and the centre number is not one of these, ask questions. Our scams guide for Vietnam covers what IDP has said about fake certificates and look-alike emails.
What is not offered
IDP says that apart from computer-delivered IELTS at its centres, it and the IELTS test partners are not offering the IELTS Indicator or any format of home-based IELTS in Vietnam. If an advert offers you IELTS at home in Vietnam, treat it with suspicion and check IDP's page first. (ielts.org describes an "IELTS Online" format in some countries, but the IDP Vietnam page says it is not offered here.)
How to book with IDP
- Open IDP Vietnam's booking page yourself.
- Choose the test type (Academic, General Training or the UKVI version), date and location in the booking system.
- Or register in person at an IDP registration office: bring your original identification document or passport.
- Pay and keep the confirmation.
IDP's page lists IELTS Academic and General Training at VND 4,664,000 for the computer-delivered test, and the ielts.org listing for the Da Nang centre shows VND 5,252,000 for UKVI on computer. IDP's page also carries a VAT note ending on 30 June 2025, so treat the fee as a guide and read the booking screen. For what is different on computer, see computer-delivered IELTS in Vietnam.
Booking with the British Council
ielts.org lists a British Council IELTS centre in Hung Yen (British University Vietnam, Ecopark) with computer-delivered Academic and General Training at VND 4,664,000 and a "Book a test" link. We could not load British Council Vietnam's own pages, so read them directly for dates, venues in other cities and rules.
On the day
Bring the same identification document you booked with (ielts.org). IDP Vietnam says the Speaking test is conducted on the official test date or within a week before or after it. Leave belongings outside the room.
A quick decision guide
- You live in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City or Da Nang: IDP's own centres are there.
- You live elsewhere: look for IDP's list of registration partners, or the British Council, and check where the test itself is held.
- Someone offers a "centre" that is not on IDP's or the British Council's own page: do not pay.
- Someone offers IELTS at home in Vietnam: IDP says it is not offered.
