What the British Council Foundation Indonesia page says
The page says you can still take IELTS on computer, with results typically within 1-2 days, available throughout the week. It lists test centres in Medan, Padang, Jakarta, Bekasi, Depok, Bogor, Bandung, Tangerang, Semarang, Solo, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Makassar, Manado and Denpasar, and three new Jakarta-area venues (LBI FIB Universitas Indonesia Salemba, LIA Cibubur, and London English School Cyber 2 Tower Kuningan). It says British Council does not provide IELTS Online in Indonesia. Session listings show Academic and General Training on computer at 3600000 IDR and UKVI at 4060000 IDR; our UKVI guide for Indonesia covers the visa version.
Payment and ID
From 1 July 2026 the page says payment is online only, with debit or credit card, QRIS, Shopee Pay, Jenius Pay, DOKU Wallet or Virtual Account. To book you need a valid identification document (KTP or passport) and a bank card for online payment. Never pay through a message or an agent's link: the ielts.org warning applies in every country (British Council fraud guide, UAE). We did not find an Indonesia-specific scam notice on the official pages we read.
What stays the same, what changes on screen
ielts.org says the move to computer does not change the skills assessed or the construct, and scores are comparable across formats. IDP describes the on-screen format: answers are typed, a notes sheet is available during Listening, and there is a note-taking and highlight function. Speaking: still a person
ielts.org says Speaking is a face-to-face session with a trained IELTS examiner; IDP says it takes place on the test day or up to 7 days before or after. Check your confirmation. If Speaking is your weakest skill, start with what to fix first.
Choosing a city and date
The page's session list shows dates by location, so compare two cities before choosing: travel time on test day matters more than a few days' difference in date. The listing we read showed computer sessions on consecutive days in Jakarta - South in early November 2026, and a UKVI Life Skills session later, on 10 December 2026; session dates move constantly, so use the live list. Write the date, venue address and Speaking slot into your calendar when the confirmation arrives, and check them again the evening before.
If you studied for the paper test
Older study material assumes a pen and a booklet. On computer the task order is the same, but you read from a screen and type Writing answers. Do two timed reading sessions on screen, type Task 2 in forty minutes without watching the keyboard, and keep Speaking practice spoken: reading answers silently is not practice. This is our teaching advice, not an official requirement; the official familiarisation test shows the real layout.

The British Council's own lines vary: "typically 1-2 days", "under 5 days", and one page says typically within 1 day. ielts.org gives 1-5 days. Leave a week of margin before any deadline.
A checklist for the week before
- Note date, time, venue, format and Speaking slot from your confirmation.
- Check your KTP or passport matches your booking.
- Practise on screen: two timed reading sessions, Task 2 typed in forty minutes, and Part 2 answers aloud with a timer.
- Leave belongings outside the room on the day and bring a clear water bottle only (ielts.org).
