Key facts
- IELTS for UKVI is an approved Secure English Language Test (GOV.UK names the "IELTS SELT Consortium"); ielts.org says it is taken in person at an official centre.
- British Council Foundation Indonesia, 2 Nov 2026: UKVI Academic or General Training on computer Rp 4,060,000; standard IELTS on computer Rp 3,600,000; UKVI Life Skills Rp 3,021,000.
- All its IELTS tests are on computer from 21 June 2026; it does not provide IELTS Online in Indonesia.
- ID: "A valid identification document (KTP or passport)."
- Whether you need a test at all depends on your visa route: check GOV.UK.
Step 1: do you need a secure English test?
GOV.UK says you usually need to prove your English when you apply. For Health and Care Worker, High Potential Individual, Innovator Founder, Minister of Religion, Scale-up Worker, Skilled Worker, Start-up, Student and one temporary-work route the test must cover reading, writing, speaking and listening; for routes such as citizenship and settlement it covers speaking and listening only. Read the guidance for your own route for the level.
The Student route has an exception: GOV.UK says you can pass a Secure English Language Test, but applicants for degree-level courses or above may have English assessed by their education provider, which must still be equivalent to CEFR level B2. Ask your university in writing before paying for a test. One more caution: IDP Indonesia's and ielts.org's pages differ on the Health and Care Worker minimum level, so rely on GOV.UK for route rules.
Step 2: is IELTS for UKVI the right test?
For people outside the UK GOV.UK names four approved providers: PSI Services (UK) Ltd, the IELTS SELT Consortium, LANGUAGECERT and Pearson, and says only the tests and levels it specifies are approved. IELTS for UKVI is the IELTS option; ielts.org says UKVI requires an extra layer of security and in-person testing at an official centre.

The results line is not consistent on the British Council's own pages ("typically 1-2 days", "under 5 days", and, on one page, "typically within 1 day"), so plan with a week of margin. IDP Indonesia lists the same UKVI fee in its FAQ but says its ID rule in two ways (passport or KTP; passport only), so if you book with IDP, confirm in your booking.
What to do next
- Write down your route and the exact English requirement.
- Open the British Council Foundation Indonesia page yourself and check the UKVI test, city, date and fee.
- Pay inside the online system only, and keep the confirmation.
- Bring the same ID you registered with.
Common mistakes
- Booking standard IELTS when your route needs the UKVI version: only the approved test counts.
- Assuming every Student visa needs a secure test; degree-level providers may assess English themselves at B2.
- Using a fee from an old forum post: the Indonesian fee pages show session-by-session prices and can change.
- Paying outside the official online system.
